Strategy Session When to announce our VP

If you were Senator Obama when would you choose to announce your VP pick? If the person is relatively unknown then wouldn't you want more time to introduce this person? Would you announce during the Olympics which by the way starts in two days and ends one day before the Convention? If he waits until the convention doesn't this mean we are talking about a "superstar" like Biden, Clinton, Hagel or Gore? Roland Martin has said that it will not be Clinton according to his sources. But I can't believe that because I broke the VP Code which proves Clinton will be chosen by "Hillary Night" didn't I?  When I observe Senator Obama I get the feeling he has an ace up his sleave. I cannot believe he is going to choose a "safe" running mate. He has stated that he will not choose someone to win a specific state. So the short list must be getting really short especially now that Bayh has stated he hasn't been asked. So when and who and why and where?.

Depends on the veep (2.00 / 1)

If it's Bayh, Biden, or Kaine, then I believe it would come in the next two days.  Since it will not be coming, I believe the three have been left at the train station.  Obama had the media buzzing about the three for weeks, has their paperwork, and yet couldn't pull the trigger.  Possibly Biden's ultra-longevity in WAshington and the views of Bayh and Kaine on partial-birth abortion are my guesses are why I think Obama didn't follow through.  It would have been good to get one of the three in an Olympics commercial to present a full ticket.

I suspect we'll see talk about a new list or new favorites.  I'm expecting anything at this point, with the exception of John McCain as veep.

Dan Balz mentions Obama is off to Hawaii so he wouldn't announce his VP now and then leave for vacation. According to Balz Obama will return one week before the convention, around the time Clinton announced Gore I think.

I still believe Wesley Clark's name is on the "shortest" list.

That's the real list written on the back-side of the sheet of paper titled "Short List" that everyone has been peeking at and leaking from.

I'm speculating the announcement of whomever will come a few days before the convention.

 I think the best time to announce would be the day after the Trolls leave MyDD.
